» Which Digital SLR Camera Should I Get?

Hi, I'm a newbie photographer, I want to get a professional camera, and learn the tricks, but I want something that will last me a long time, that is even when I get good. My budget is $500 to $1000. Any recommendations would be appreciated, as I'm pretty new to digital SLR domain.I am a Nikon person. I have used Nikon since the 70s and the first Nikon SLR I ever bought still functions as well today as when I bought it.If you are goind digital SLR then right now Nikon is giving much better high ISO performance with low noise. For people getting thier frist DSLR I usually recommend the D40. I have a Nikon D40 and I love it. The D40 has a full manual mode, Flexible progam, aperature priority, shutter priority modes. » Why does atheists say their moral is stronger than believers?

I find this weird? I guess we all have basic concept of morality. But in ie. bible, there are alot words dealing with moral such as dont kill, dont steal, love your neighbour, etc. So shouldnt believers have more moral than atheists as they have a moral guide in their life? If you are going to say, believers are afraid of being punished, so their moral is impure, what do you think believers are? murderers whos scared to kill? I mean everyone have moral, i think believers have more since bible work as a bonus.Atheists only do what they "feel" to be right out of fear, fear of consequence, fear of physical pain, jail time, fear of fines, fear of unnecessary conflict, etc. What is right to an atheist is relative to the amount of conse...... - 2009-07-04

On the thread that inspired the formation of this forum, we discussed ways to predict team records from their goals scored and goals against. It was determined that using a Poisson distribution for goals would work well. I did some playing with this year's MLS records...here's what I found. » Portable handheld gps for hiking, etc.?

Ok, I don't want a gps for road navigation. What I do want is a gps that I can program in long/latitudes and it just says what direction to head (how far away I am would be nice too.) Remember, this is for walking around, and not driving. One more thing, my budget is small, keep it at or under $100.I use a Garmin Legend, just the plain one. It's not color, and doesn't have alot of bells and whisles, but have a few features I like. Magellan also has a few cheaper ones, but I'm not familiar with them. One thing I like about my Garmin is the ability to figure the size of a lot or field. Helps when I need to know how much grass seed, fertilizer, etc. to buy. It can also work in the car. I just put it up in the windshield,...... - 2009-07-04

My sessions recently stopped being passed and i am wondering if an IIS setting on windows 2003 would have caused it. Currently i had an upload image page which would upload the image and create session variables of the images name. title. description and resolution which it would pass to the next page. On this page you could preview the image, make any last minute changes then hit Create and it would enter the info. The image upload and everything is still fine so its not a permission problem. the image is uploaded and resized. however in page 2 the session variables are clearly not being passed becuase they are not displayed anymore on the page like they are supposed to be and the info therefore is never entered into the database. this...... - 2009-07-04

» What can I do to make my Christmas tree last longer?

It's an Oregon Fir. I bought it just now. I heard adding sugar works, but how much? Any other tricks? The best thing to do is saw an inch or so of the butt off to fresh wood then put it in a pie pan full of water when you set the tree in it's stand. Keep water in the pan at all times and the tree will last quite a long time. The waxy, thick shelled needles contain very little sap and don't dry up much from the outside, instead, most of their drying happens when the tree stops supplying moisture to them. I would think that hairspray would stop all air and moisture exchange, to the detriment of the entire tree.Ummm i was going to say get a fake tree but you already got your tree so....you should give it plenty of water suger...... - 2009-07-04

» E major feels awkward on piano... why?

It feels awkward to play with my left hand, mainly because of the fourth finger. Playing E with the fifth finger and then F# with the fourth doesn't feel comfortable at all. There are a couple of scales like this, actually... B major comes to mind. Is there another way to play these, or can someone recommend some tips?No other way because form is important for effective playing...but you'll get used to it...just do a lot of finger exercises...there are a lot of books for finger agility and strength...I've tried the one by Hanon (The Virtuoso Pianist in 60 Exercises) and liked it... Some people avoid awkward positions by doing finger positions more comfortable to them...but that will do very little in improving your skills....... - 2009-07-04

I'm the Webmaster at a magazine publishing company, considering setting up vBulletin for use on our websites. We would like to offer our readers a forum to duscuss their thoughts. I'm concerned about how much space & bandwidth vBulletin will employ for our uses. We run our own colocated server, and combined our websites average between about 100,000 - 150,000 hits / 7,000 - 8,000 user sessions a day. Obviously, not every visitor will be sitting on a bulletin board 24/7. But from your own experience, how much space would you expect this type of an implementation to use? What about bandwidth? » Family member on probation, police going to search house?

I just moved back home to find out that because of my sisters probation, the police are going to search the house, do I have any say in what they search? I am not a criminal, and i dont want cops going through all of my personal stuff. it bothers me very much. i live in california. Do i have any rights in what they can and cannot search in my own room? please help!! It depends on the condition of her probation. If they announced the search then I'd say you search her room and get rid of anything before they show up. I would say you would have a valid complaint if anything gets broken or messed up. But if her probation papers say they can search the entire residence you know this going in and have to abide by it.They can search any area...... - 2009-07-04

» Sunderland Post Match Discussion (R)

Town wins 1-0 on a penalty kick at the end of the first half. Sounds like Town had a great match based on my half-listening to it on the radio broadcast while also doing work. Nice to get six points over the Easter weekend.I need to go away on vacation more often if these are the types of results I can come home to. ;) Didn't get a chance to listen to the match but I'll post some reports later.Crystal Palace did us a nice favor today. Thanks, boys!TOTALLY DISAGREE, we would have been much better served to have Crystal Palace lose, Sunderland are going to get one of the 4 spots and we would be much better off if Palace were 7 points behind us. Who really cares whether we finish 3rd or 6th, I guess it is preferable to finish 3rd o...... - 2009-07-04

» how about a typography battle?

Yo kirupstaz, Have you guys ever had a typography battle? Would go somthing like this... we choose a word or phrase and then illustrate it using both typography and design skillz in either vector, raster, or vector/raster. For example we could take the word "complex" and then produce illustrations that are complex or illustrate the actual word "complex" in a complex kind of way. sound good?Allright then so no one cares about this. Well I did one anyway just to motivate you people. Its not all about "web" and "flash"... so you can find my version in the link below. It illustrates the word "simple": http://www.pottsco.com.au/test123/_private/cv/simple.gif so there it is... will anyone reply nowWow, that's very nice, megatron :lo...... - 2009-07-04

» Drink Driving: is Zero tolerence literally Zero tolerence ?

I was watching this program on TV tonight regarding drink driving and the call for Zero tolerence in the UK for drivers. When I startted driving six weeks ago I made the concious choice to give up drinking alcohol full stop. So that 1) whatever happened on the road it would not be becuase I had consumed alcohol, and 2) I figured that the money I saved not drinking would go some way to paying the exhorbitent fuel bill. But I seem to recall reading some time ago that even if you do not drink any alcohol, the human body can make it just from what you eat and drink naturally. Is this true ? and if so, what sort of levels of alcohol are produced naturally within the body ? and are allowances made for this in countries that do have a Zero t...... - 2009-07-04

» How to do a pike and straddle press handstand?

which one should i learn first?I think a straddle press is definitely easier, so I would start with that. This skill requires a lot of shoulder strength and practice. A great drill if you are just starting out would be to do some toe taps against a wall. Stand in a narrow straddle facing a wall and place your hands on the floor (about 3 inches from the base of the wall) shoulder length apart. Lean your shoulders so that they are touching the wall and begin to lift your toes off the ground by pulling your legs up the sides all the way to the handstand position. Think of your back curling up the wall like a cat's back, and keep your arms straight. Try not to jump! From the handstand, straddle your legs back down to the startin...... - 2009-07-04

» Ouch! I'm 38 weeks and 4 days pregnant and been having pretty painful cramps in my lower abdomen...?

they hurt enough to make me have to hug a pillow tight and tell myself to keep breathing. I've had them since 3am (now it's 11:05pm).. However, they haven't formed a real time pattern. They last anywhere from 20-60 seconds and I get 2-5 of them every hour. I am so tired and tense from them, lil headache too. Also, when I'm up I feel like I have to poop, especially when I'm goin pee! (sorry!) But I definitely can't go. Are they real time to go to the hospital contractions or BH? What if they keep going into the night, should I go to the hospital then? » 80% furnace flue temperature?

We dont do residential (at least not very much), and I had a new condensing unit/furnace installed last week for a client of ours and he asked how hot the flue would get when operating. Its a 80% 115,000 Btu input. Not that it really matters, but now I am curious. The one I installed in my home is a 92% so its not even close to running the same flue temp. Regards,An 80% condensing furnace flue temp. will likely be above 275 degrees F. Should be vented into a Cat. III non masonary chimney without any other gas appliances connected. It is pretty important that this type of furnace is installed per manufactures instructions.I am not worried about not being installed properly, he was just asking about the temp of the flue, I think he ...... - 2009-07-04

Her new CD isn't all that, but her old CD's are definately cool.Ok, thanks.Hang on there, Harvey! Her new cd is really really good. Even though it's a cover album. I know Nike designs the Ducks uniforms, are they trying to prove something here?Yeah i like there Uniforms and they were a new combination every weekI'm not sure why the Ducks feel like they need to have several different uniforms. I can understand a home uniform, an away uniform, and even a 3rd uniform for special occasions (think NHL 3rd jerseys), but there's really no need for 700+ combos. From that moment on--living as we know it will be changed forever. What is considered "normal" will come crashing down, to the point that the new reality will be so bizarre that it will seem UNREAL. Is anyone else experiencing shades of this already...as if you are dreaming this, and really want "normal" to come back ? What if this IS the new reality, and what was "normal" is gone forever? What are the top-tier programs for an MFA in creative writing, concentrating in poetry, in the United States? You might want to give the University of Illinois a look. » Please discuss the options of price ceiling vs. floor?

not my homework...just want some good points to discuss with a friendFrom an economic point of view, both are poor ideas. They disrupt the equilibrium of the market and put a strain on one of the parties (usually the wealthier one). But from a social standpoint, they are safeguards meant to protect certain parties. The minimum wage is an example of a price floor; it protects unskilled workers from being exploited and provides them with enough money to survive (or so it is claimed, try living off 10 thousand dollars a year). Some cities implement price ceilings on rent. I believe NYC does this for qualifying individuals. But again, it disrupts the equilibrium of the market value of housing....... - 2009-07-04

» My cat is trying to urinate but can't,he is passing blood?

get him to the vet, now.......your cat is going to die if you do not get him to the vet. Get him to the vet, right now. This could be an emergency. He could die within hours without treatment if he has a blockage. This is a LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY. You need to get him to your vet AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It sounds like he has a urethral obstruction, which is not uncommon in male cats. It is usually a mix of crystals and protein, and/or stones. As the urine builds up, the high potassium content will poison the heart, the kidneys start to go into failure, and the bladder could rupture. Your vet can relieve the obstruction and administer IV fluids to your cat to prevent further renal damage. The sooner you get him in, the higher the chance that...... - 2009-07-04

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/7648156/detail.html (http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/7648156/detail.html) A Look Back: The 1918 Flu Pandemic POSTED: 10:24 am EST March 3, 2006 UPDATED: 4:57 pm EST March 3, 2006 The following report by Channel 4 Action News reporter Janelle Hall first aired on Channel 4 Action News at 5 p.m. on March 3, 2006. When scientists talk about the bird flu, the word that often comes up is "pandemic" -- the fear the flu will rapidly spread, infecting a large part of the population. In order to grasp that kind of magnitude, Channel 4 Action News turns the history pages back to the year 1918. That's when more than 20 million people worldwide died from the flu -- 4,500 of them from Pittsbu...... - 2009-07-04

» Is it relatively easy to get a job in journalism if one is willing to travel to dangerous, war-torn areas?

With a BS in International Affairs?Eric, I have absolutely no personal information on your question, just a lot of experience in journalism in the USA, but I'd guess that unless you had at least a degree in journalism, if not at least a year or two experience with a newspaper or wire service, no one would want to hire you as "their" correspondent. The reason is really quite simple. If they did, they would be relying on you to do the right job as a journalist and with you not having any journalism experience and they wouldn't know what you could do. It would be THEIR credibility that was on line, not yours. Again, I don't know for positive, but I think I'm probably 99.8% right on this. Sorry.NO!...... - 2009-07-04

» Risk Communication - Via CIDRAP

Fear can play role in pandemic readiness, speaker says Robert Roos http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/cidrap/images/purple-speck.gif News Editor Feb 17, 2006 (CIDRAP News) – One expert's advice to leaders trying to prepare the world for an influenza pandemic: Don't be scared of scaring people. Peter M. Sandman, PhD, a risk communication expert from Princeton, N.J., told those attending a Minneapolis conference on business planning for pandemic flu that fear is what motivates people to take sensible precautions in the face of a real threat. "The single most important thing I want to say to you is, don't worry so much about scaring people. People can take it," Sandman told ...... - 2009-07-04

» Ladies, will you help me on reasons? and maybe how?

ok, i don't get why soo many chicks love to smack guys. i've gotten slapped a few times, and a few of my boys have too. not every girl does it. but if a guy is straight up with a girl, hhe can be that way with a few girls, then the next 1 will slap my face. i couldn't believe that. so i vowed to try and block the hand if another 1 were to try it. that's funny, because it seems like i can't. they whip the hand out to the side so fast i get slapped every time. and a couple of my boys, they can't block it either. college girls do it, and they ARE fast! but they can be as open as they want, and there's no problem. if we're the same, SLAP! what's up with that???? what are the reasons you ladies do thi...... - 2009-07-04

» So, what if every man in the world was to do this?

ok so lets flip the previous question, what if men all over the world was to refuse to have sex with women in exchange of complete control over the world, could they? No. We can find other ways. Besides, the men would cave within an hour or two.Of course but that won't happen because 1 we have most control anyway and 2 some guys are just too perverted.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! like men can go without sex. and besides, that would doom all humanity, so we girls would have to resort to xtreme measures. hehehe..........Women are innately uninterested in sex, life is cruel.Men already have complete control over the world it seems. It's been like that for years.um, let me re-phrase this to you: Do you like sex? If your answer is yes, then you...... - 2009-07-04

» Being at Highbury this afternoon

Being at Highbury this afternoon, actually started off on Thursday when ED, from Michigan, currently in the UK phoned to confirm all was well for his attendance at the Bolton game, and "by the way; any chance of 2 more tickets" (for 2 other travelling companions). Having been at Highbury the day before to get tickets for Newcastle and SPurs (still available) I knew that the game was a sell out but said, "Hang in there", I will see what I can do. A couple of phone calls made, produced 1, and I knew that I could probably pick up another from somewhere, but getting 2 together might be difficult at such a late stage. A "return call" on Friday never materialised until Saturday morning when I was asked, "How does 2 tickets (free!) in the direc...... - 2009-07-04

» finding a stock

My late father-in-law retired from Western Electric over 20 years ago. When he retired he gave my daughter 3 stocks from WE. In the process her father and I divorced. She is now going to be 25 in July and he keeps telling me that he doesn't have the stocks and doesn't know where they are. What do I do?May be a long shot, but check you state's Unclaimed Property listing. For many states, this will be available online, perhaps from the state Secretary of State's website. (If the family lived in a different state a while back, check that state's listings, too.)Yes, that is a good suggestion. Here is a site that gives an overview and links. To get to the states, scroll down to the bottom, and then on the next site do...... - 2009-07-04
